What is the demographic of people buying Mega Construx/Bloks?
I believe they have a
fantastic product and a
genius USP but I just don't know what their mass market would be.
Call of Duty and Halo I understand. Destiny OK... but to a lesser degree.
Master of the Universe?
Great figures but who are they for? When was the last MOTU series/film/whatever. If it's for people who remember the original then are there enough of those still buying toys?
Lets say MOTU is on a shelf in Toys R Us in the UK... which kids will want it? How many parents will say "You know I might just buy those for myself". It might be different in the US/Canada but I don't think there is the market in the UK.
Picard? I know Star Trek is eternal but when did STNG last air? 25 years ago?
I see 5 potential areas or combinations...
1) Cater for the big kids who still love their toys, have some disposal income. i.e. continue as normal.
2) Find another big computer game or comic license : Fallout? Fortnite? <edit> 2000AD - Dredd, Strontium Dog, Rogue Trooper, Halo Jones?????)
3) Find a film/TV franchise that deserves fantastic figures : Hunger Games? Westworld? Bond? (OK the cost might be prohibitive)
4) 'Traditional' genres : Horror : Dracula, Mummy, Wolfman etc. Westerns (might be tricky).
5) The punt : Create a universe with their own characters. No idea what genre it would be but...
The thing is all of these would either need to be sold online or in specialist 'comic' shops.
When it comes to Toy Shops they just don't fit or can't compete with [competitor].
I haven't thought this through very much so there are going to be HUGE holes in my suggestions... but it's late and I am desperate to still be able to buy products I care about from a company I admire.
